Bob "The Beast" Sapp is cornered. The darling of the Japanese marshal arts world has been badly beaten in recent matches but this time around, he might be out for the count. He allegedly fled from a fight with Ernst Hoost in Holland in May just hours before it was due to begin.
Japanese media gave Sapp an avalanche of criticism for what they perceived as Sapp's cowardice. But weeks after the incident, which left the excited crowd unable to see the main event of the day, Sapp is fighting back and claiming he had a good reason to abandon the game.
For one, Sapp says, K-1 did not deliver the contract it had promised him. The embattled fighter also claimed he has received threats against his life since the day of the event and is unable to move around without body guards protecting him.
Breaking silence, Sapp is now ready to detail the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan, how and why he suddenly left the stadium without fighting.

「野獣」ボブ・サップは今や、コーナーに追い詰められています。
日本の格闘技ファンが最も愛する彼は、しかし最近はひどく負けが込んでいた。しかし、今回はカウントの必要も無いかもしれない。
というのは、試合の数時間前になって、オランダでのアーネスト・ホースト戦から逃げていったのだ。
日本のメディアがそれらに関してサップに「臆病もの」のレッテルを張り、怒涛の勢いで酷評した。
だがサップは、事件の数週間後に「試合を捨てるに値する、もっともな理由があったのだ」と主張しています。
ああ、つまんねーや。新情報じゃないし。

ドラマ的には、その前日に失踪。最後に残した言葉が「実はあのときは、ロシアから来ていた裏サンボの連中が怖かったんだ。あの、ネオ・ソビエトの連中が・・・」だったとかなら個人的には盛り上がるなあ。
といってもごく一部しかわからんだろうけどな。
